Dominican Republic, Spirit Mountain
We are happy to have our first Gesha offering from our friend's at Spirit Mountain Estate! This is our second year offering their coffee, but this time we went for something a little more rare. The Gesha (or sometimes geisha) varietal was first found in Ethiopia, but once cultivated in countries like Costa Rica & Panama, became infamous for it's unique characteristics and complexity. Chad received seeds from an award winning farm in Panama and is now offering the Dominican Republic's only Gesha.
Chad Wallace, the owner of Spirit Mountain, has been a friend for a few years now, and ships all the coffee by air himself. Chad bought the 350 acre farm back in 2003, and since then created a ecological reserve that produces some excellent coffees. From Brix meters, Drying Beds, and Anaerobic processing, Chad has introduced new and innovative methods to improve his lots. This year, he has honed down his crop to select varietals to be more resistant against disease. Check out their website for more information on all they do for their community in Manabao.
